IRIB honors filmmaker Majid Majidi

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) honors Majid Majidi by reviewing a collection of his films.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) pays tribute to the renowned Iranian film director Majid Majidi by reviewing a collection of his films.

The IRIB Channel 5 broadcasts a collection of films made by Majidi for one week beginning from Saturday night. The films, which are being followed by review programs, include ‘Beyond the Clouds’, ‘Baran’, ‘Father’, ‘The Color of Paradise’, ‘Swimming in Winter’, ‘Shooting’ and ‘Up to the Visit’.

Majidi, whose latest film ‘Sun Children’ won the Marcello Mastroianni Award at the 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy, has directed several films noticeable at international arena during his cinematic career. His films are comprehensible for the people all over the world having various cultures.

Majidi’s ‘Children of Heaven’ (1998) was the first Iranian film to be nominated for an Academy Award in the foreign language category.

In spite of being professional, his films are easy to understand, eloquent, clear and friendly. Majidi is one of the few directors who does not employ professional cast and glittery scenes.

The 61-year-old director does not even look for box office. His films completely reflect the picture of people who honestly pray and praise God, trust in Him and seek help from Him. Majidi has proved through his films that he understands cinema and applies cinematic instruments in order to exalt Iran's culture and nation.
